THE FUTURE OF ECUADOR IN YOUR HANDS!

NOVEMBER 25 - NOVEMBER 28 2025 (2021)

BACKGROUND

All the participants of the simulation move to the future and arrive at the year 2025. The planet begins to recover from the worst time in its history and prepares for the challenges of an uncertain future. The COVID-19 pandemic and its 10 derivative variants left more than 500 million dead and three billion infected worldwide. The economy shrank by more than 30%, bringing with it the highest unemployment and recession rates in human history.

In Ecuador, the presidential term of Guillermo Lasso ends in May 2025 and the new president Otto Sonnenholzner in the first two months of his government requests a Constituent Assembly, which was approved through popular consultation in August of the same year. This Constituent Assembly is given in order to replace the 2008 Constitution, not to reform it, but this does not remove the possibility of using it as a basis or guide the articles found in the current constitution.

WORKING TABLES

The elected Constituent Assembly Members identified five essential reforms that must be made to the Constitution of the Republic of Ecuador of 2008 (CRE). Each reform was discussed in a specialized work table for the subject.

TABLE 1
ORGANIC REFORM (MR-O)

At this table, the participants discussed Title IV of the 2008 Constitution, with emphasis on the five functions of the State.

TABLE 2
REFORMS TO THE RIGHTS OF GOOD LIVING (MR-DBV)

At this table the participants discussed the second chapter of the 2008 Constitution, which emphasizes the rights that citizens will enjoy, such as health, education, culture and science, food, healthy environment, among others.

TABLE 3
REFORMS TO CONSTITUTIONAL SUBJECTS (MR-SC)

In the third table, chapters III and IV of the 2008 Constitution were discussed with respect to the rights of people and priority attention groups.

TABLE 4
REFORMS TO THE RIGHTS OF PARTICIPATION AND FREEDOM (MR-DPL)

This table proposed a debate on the rights of participation such as voting, the formation of political parties, revocation of mandate and conditions of equality.

CREATION OF TITLE X OF THE CONSTITUTION: ANTI-CORRUPTION REGIME

In this table, the participants created the constitutional bases for the fight against corruption within the functions of the State.

"It is commonly heard that the future will be better, that the best is yet to come, but it is not really like that. The future is now and if we do not act in the present in order to seek a better future, then nothing will change tomorrow. That is why , change is here and I am happy to say that I see it in you, in us".
