COLD WAR: RISE AND DEMISE

This course will be taught in English

This course explores one of the most interesting episodes of international politics, the confrontation between the United States and the former Soviet Union and how it shaped the international system and global politics that we know of today.

The main objective of this intensive course is to provide participants with an alternative understanding of the Cold War through the selection and analysis of untypical topics that surround this conflict. In the mainstream academic treatment of the Cold War, there have been many episodes left out of their discussion. Therefore, the analysis and discussion of these “almost forgotten” aspects of the Cold War will provide participants with a different insight into the complexity of this conflict and generate new debates; especially about the possible risks that were not accounted for and could have had impactful repercussions for the development of global political forces at that time and onwards.
